Fleet Captain Report: February 2021

Coming into my home this past week, I looked west at sunset and was struck by the most beautiful pink sky. And, of course, how could I not think of "pink skies at night, a sailor's delight." We had a struggling but successful sailing season in 2020 with some delightful sails-pink skies or otherwise. We scheduled twelve outings and completed eight. Whereas other organizations canceled most or all of their sailing events, we had the participation from many of our skippers and members in a guarded but safe environment.

We missed out on much of the socializing but had the opportunity to share our love of sailing. For 2021, I suspect there will be little change in the scheduled events. Until there is a significant level of vaccinations, our plans will remain cautious. In the last few years, a separate meeting early in the year helped establish the events for the upcoming season. Although we could have this meeting on Zoom, I don't think it would prove beneficial at this time since the number of skippers and members will not be determined until late Spring and those numbers may be decreased as was the situation last year. So, our schedule will most likely resemble that of 2020.

As usual, we will hope for the proverbial fair winds and following seas.
